The winner of the new CNC programming and operating section of the Euroskills international vocational training contest, secured an Alphacam licence for his school.
Spaniard Victor Vera (pictured right, centre) took first prize ahead of Marko Merkac of Slovenia who finished second (pictured below, left), and third placed Ivo Ilm from Estonia (pictured below, right). The Alphacam licence, along with a personal prize for Victor of a laptop, were organised by the Portuguese Alphacam reseller, Bitmind, who sponsored the CNC section.
Managing director Carlos Rodrigues says as a sponsor and teaching partner for Euroskills, Bitmind provided full support and assistance at the event, along with distance learning for teams across Europe in the build-up to the competition.
The contestants came from colleges in Portugal, Spain, Holland, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Estonia, and prepared for the competition by working with their local Alphacam resellers:
• Nexnet - Czech Republic and Slovakia
• Proteus – Netherlands
• Licom Italy – Slovenia
• Pathtrace A/S – Spain.
Euroskills brings together schools, colleges, professionals, experts, trainers and enterprises from throughout Europe, with the objective of testing and comparing skills and training methods.
CNC programming and operating was introduced for the first time, with Bitmind sponsoring and overseeing the Woodcraft Technology cluster. Contestants in the CNC machining competition produced one cabinet piece and completed two mandatory tests accounting for 25% of the final mark in the Wood Machining Technician competition.
In conjunction with MARJOS, a Portuguese industry leader, Bitmind was also able to secure a Balestrini 300/1000 5-axis machine with NUM controller, for the contestants to use at Euroskills.
“Being involved with Euroskills was very important to us as we believe in supporting, teaching and developing wood machining professionals. Only with good software and qualified professionals can the industry be driven forward. Euroskills gave us the opportunity to present Alphacam as benchmark software in the wood machining industry, to a wide range of professionals, industry leaders, technicians and customers of the future.”
“I’m sure CNC programming and machining will now become standard for these competitions. The organisers of the next Euroskills, in Belgium, have already asked for more information about Alphacam.”
